Individual might present to counselling at time of change or unrest. Working in collaboration with a counsellor will offer the chance for personal growth. My aim is to provide an open, supportive, and confidential environment for you to address the issues that are concerning you.
Grief and loss are feelings that are not limited to the death of a loved one. Grief may be experienced at the loss of a relationship, deterioration in health, a job or the loss of a family pet.
After any significant loss, you may experience a range of emotions, from shock, sadness, anger or guilt. All of these emotions are welcome in the counselling room and are part of the grieving process.
Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety is the body’s natural response to danger, it offers us a heightened sense of awareness when we feel threatened, are under pressure or are in a stressful situation. It is our body’s way of letting us know something is not right. Depression is different for everyone, however, there are some common signs and symptoms. These can range from tiredness, irritability, forgetfulness, and not being yourself. I can work with you to help you understand your anxiety and/or depression; to explore the emotions behind these as well as learn healthy coping skills.
Sexuality is diverse, and there are many different types. It can take time to figure out the sexuality that fits you best. Sexuality is about your sexual feelings, thoughts, attractions and behaviours towards other people. I can support you to safely explore and overcome difficulties surrounding sexual intimacy or sexual dysfunction. I can also provide a space to explore LGBTQI+, and other sexual identity questions, feelings or relationships.
Trauma and Abuse
Trauma or abuse is very personal and a difficult experience for people to share, process and move forward with. Trauma and abuse has no set list of symptoms but among these may be anxiety and depression. I can provide you with a safe space to enable you to explore, at your own pace, how you would like to work in therapy, through a range of methods.
Many relationships can reach a stage where one or both partners are finding it difficult to communicate and may not be providing what either are looking for. Relationship counselling helps you to make the most of your relationships, it allows for a non-judgement space that can help to improve the situation and assist the couple to remain together. For some people counselling will help transform their relationships though more positive communication and move away from conflict and resentment.
Stress management is a wide spectrum of techniques aimed and controlling a person’s level of stress, it should improving everyday functioning. Stress management starts with identifying the sources of stress in your life. Stress has many different manifestations from being easily agitated, sleeping difficulties, headaches and low energy. If your methods of coping with stress aren’t contributing to your greater emotional and physical health, it’s time to find healthier ones. There are many healthy ways to manage and cope with stress. Counselling and Stress Management can help you to make the changes needed to reduce stress.
Mindfulness practice, inherited from the Buddhist tradition, is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique. Mindfulness has been thought to alleviate a variety of mental and physical conditions, such as pain management, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and assists with fighting depression and anxiety.
